What is co-enrollment or dual enrollment at Charlotte Technical College?

Charlotte Technical College encourages high school students to enroll in our career and technical education programs while enrolled in area high school, virtual, or home education programs. Co-enrolled students earn credit toward high school graduation requirements. Dual-enrolled students earn credit towards high school graduation requirements while also earning clock hours towards a career and technical program certificate. Dual-enrolled students may also earn college credit toward an associate's degree.

What are the eligibility requirements for enrollment as a high school student?
A student must:

• Have a minimum of a 2.0 unweighted GPA and be on target for graduation. Some programs have more stringent, program-specific admission requirements.
• Have good attendance and discipline records.
• Be mindful that co-enrolled or dual-enrolled high school students will be held to the same behavioral and performance standards as adult students at CTC.

Achievement of these eligibility requirements must be documented prior to a student's enrollment in a program.
 

How are career dual enrollment courses weighted by the school district?
Section 1003.437, F.S., specifies that school districts and Florida College System institutions must weigh dual enrollment courses the same as Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Advanced International Certificate of Education courses when grade point averages are calculated. In addition, many of the co-enrollment courses at CTC are weighted as Honors-level courses when grade point averages are calculated.
 

What are the cost-saving benefits of earning Industry Certification through Career and Technical Education Programs?
Earning Industry Certification that leads to post-secondary credit through Career and Technical Education programs can save families hundreds, or even thousands of dollars in college tuition and fees. There is no cost for Industry Certification exams for students who are co-enrolled or dual-enrolled at CTC.
 

Application & Registration Information
Applications for high school enrollment are accepted each year after winter break. The online high school application will be posted on the CTC website by January 31st. Health Sciences programs (CNA, EMT, LPN, MA) and Cosmetology have additional application requirements; those requirements are explained in detail on the program page. Application review begins after spring break, and students are notified of acceptance/non-acceptance by email. Students who are accepted are expected to attend a mandatory spring Orientation meeting with a parent/guardian. The CTC calendar for high school students is the same as the CCPS regular high school calendar.
