Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair is a multi-year program for 9th-12th graders. Auto shop and laboratory activities are an integral part of the program, where students learn the use of tools, equipment, materials, and processes used in the automotive industry. The program has earned Master Certification from the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). Outstanding students may qualify to participate in the AYES internship program. Our experienced instructors teach safe and efficient work practices while preparing students for a career as an Auto Service Technician.

  • High School Application Process

    • Complete the CTC High School Application online in the spring.
    • Let your high school counselor know that you applied to CTC.
    • Notification of acceptance/non-acceptance will be emailed.
    • Attend mandatory Orientation at the CTC campus with a parent or guardian.
  • After successfully completing this program, the student will be able to perform the following:

     

    1. Proficiently explain and apply required shop and personal safety tasks relating to the automotive industry.
    2. Explain and apply required tasks associated with the proper use and handling of tools and equipment relating to the automotive industry.
    3. Demonstrate proficiency in preparing vehicle for routine pre/post maintenance and customer services.
    4. Explain and apply proficiently the diagnosis, service and repair of engines, cylinder heads, valve train, lubrication, and cooling systems.
    5. Explain and apply proficiently the diagnosis, service and repair of electrical/electronic system components, battery, starting, charging, lighting, instrument cluster, driver information, and body electrical systems.
    6. Explain and apply proficiently the diagnosis, service and repair of front and rear suspension systems, wheel alignment, and wheels and tires.
    7. Explain and apply proficiently the diagnosis, service, and repair of drum\disc brake, hydraulics, power assist units, electronic brakes, and related (wheel bearings, parking brake, electrical, etc.) systems.
    8. Explain and apply proficiently the diagnosis, service and repair of heating and air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and engine cooling, operating and related control systems.
    9. Explain and apply proficiently the diagnosis, service and repair of engine computerized controls, fuel, air induction, exhaust, and emission control systems.
    10. Explain and apply proficiently the diagnosis, service, repair and overhaul of in-vehicle and off-vehicle automatic transmissions/transaxles.
    11. Explain and apply proficiently the diagnosis, service and repair of manual drivetrain, clutches, transmissions/transaxles, drive and half-shafts, universal and constant velocity joints, differential case assemblies, drive axles, four-wheel and all-wheel drive systems.
